            PRISONER EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM (PEP)

Formerly "Alaska Correctional Industries" (ACI)

We sincerely appreciate the support you have given us over the years!

PEP is a program of the State of Alaska's Department of Corrections. Our  industrial and service enterprises employ individuals incarcerated within the state's correctional system. Inmates are offered an opportunity to use their time productively through realistic work experience that provides good work habits and improves their occupational skills. This increases the possibility of employment and successful reintegration into society upon release.

WHY PEP?       "Cutting Through the Perceptions Video

The Department of Corrections and Legislature support correctional industries because people see many benefits when inmates work. Correctional industries need the support of the general public, business, and labor interests, because to reap the benefits of employing inmates, local governments must develop partnerships with communities and employers.

The National Correctional Industries Association (NCIA) is an international nonprofit professional association. NCIA's members include all 50 state correctional industry agencies, Federal Prison Industries, foreign correctional industry agencies and numerous city and county jail industry programs. Private sector companies that work in partnership with correctional industries both as suppliers/vendors and as partners in apprenticeship and work programs are among NCIA's members.

MISSION OF PEP

The primary mission of the Prisoner Employment Program is to assist in the rehabilitation of prisoners by providing realistic work experiences as much like those that prevail in private industry as possible.
